During the facility rehabilitation, a temporary bypass pumping system will be utilized, allowing the facility to deactivate in order to replace certain equipment and to expedite the construction work. Additionally, site drainage improvements immediately adjacent to the facility, including a drainage swale and MassDOT stormwater system connection, will also be constructed.
With numerous updates in the Massachusetts State Building Code since the facility was initially constructed, the rehabilitation will include the latest upgrades to address code compliance issues, such as HVAC, plumbing, architectural, roof, and fire protection system improvements. Replacement of these components will ensure that the facility will continue to provide uninterrupted wastewater service.
Also, major facility components in need of rehabilitation will include:
• Facility gates;
• Wastewater screens and grinders;
• Primary wastewater pumps and motors;
• Odor control systems; and,
• Electrical equipment, such as a backup emergency generator in case of power failure.
